Carliloso T. Anasco

Carliloso Torrefiel Anasco, known to many as “Papa/Lolo/Noy Carling” joined our Creator on February 11, 2019 at the age of 102 years. A native of Getafe, Bohol, Philippines, Carling’s life story can be summed up as triumph over adversity. He was born in an era of severe famine, survived two shipwrecks, suffered physical torture and escaped execution during WWII. Armed with perseverance, he pursued a career as a school teacher after obtaining a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from the University of Bohol (Rafael Palma College) and his Master of Arts in Education from the University of the Visayas. After his retirement as a school district supervisor, Carling immigrated to the United States and adapted well to his new home in Dearborn, Michigan. Resistant to becoming idle, he was actively involved in various civic and religious organizations, particularly in the Filipino community. He devoted time to several passions – including gardening and writing. He grew a lush oriental vegetable garden which landed him a feature article in the Dearborn Press and Guide. He contributed articles to various community publications and the Bohol Chronicle. As tribute to his roots, Carling wrote seven riveting books about the history of Bohol, its people and his autobiography, “Tale of a Dog’s Tail.” Carling was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years Carmen Estillore Anasco. He was a loving father to Leonora Anasco, Rogelio (Lucita) Anasco, Candelaria Anasco (+), Elisa Anasco, Edgardo (Cleofas) Anasco, Antonietta (Exequiel III) Paalam. Navidad) Anasco, Anna Liza Mae (James Van) Edano, Gerald (Jocelyn) Gales, Carol (Michael) D’Agostino, Madonna (Michael) Cadiz, Sharon (Ramon Jr.) Gualberto, Rommel (Melinda) Anasco , Anthony, Mark, Patrick (Inez) Paalam. Great Grandpa of Jian Carlo, Jelliane, Joanna, John Basil, Jean Van Alfred, Jade Van Anthony, Jayden Van Andre, Carl Michael, Mikaela Mariel, Miguel Matheson, Roger, Raphael Jacob, Elijah Vincent (+), and Melody Elise. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM – 9:00 PM on Friday, February 15, 2019 with a Rosary at 4:00 PM at Hackett-Metcalf Funeral Home, 2640 Monroe Boulevard, Dearborn, Michigan 48124. Funeral services will be on Saturday, February 16, 2019; Instate 10:00 AM at St. Kateri Catholic Church, 16101, Rotunda Drive, Dearborn, Michigan 48120 until the time of the Mass at 11:00 AM. Procession will follow to his final resting place at St. Hedwig Cemetery in Dearborn Heights, Michigan.
